Boat Glenville

We are a 501c3 representing all families boating on Lake Glenville

About us

We are a nonprofit organized to represent all families on Lake Glenville wishing to preserve their boating rights!

We believe in boating responsibly and respectfully for ALL craft on the lake, not just wake surf boats.

We support a minumum distance to the shoreline for ALL boaters, not just wake surf boats.

As members of the Lake Glenville Community we must share the lake responsibly!

Contact the WSIA for more information about boating ettiquette. This extends to all boats on the lake.

Stop Wake Polution!

  • The 200-foot buffer means no wakes on narrow spots in the lake for ALL boats.
  • Stay 200 ft away from docks, paddle boards, canoes, kayaks and swimmers.
  • Stop circle tubing to create monster wolf-pack waves!
  • When using a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard, please stay within 200 feet of the lake edge to give space for power boats.
  • Use the entire lake when tubing, wake boarding or wake surfing to limit wave pollution in one area.

A 200-foot buffer allows for the dissipation of waves generated by surfing or tubing behind any boat.

Lake Glenville is a Public Lake serving the entire state of North Carolina and the US.

Boaters on Lake Glenville must behave in the best interest of all!

Despite overwhelming opposition….

HB 183 has been ratified into law and goes into effect October 1, 2025.

If you disagree with HB-183 and would prefer local management of this issue,  please sign the petition and contact Senator Kevin Corbin and Representative Mike Clampitt!

Winter Wave Patterns

The unimpeded waves of 4-6 inches during the winter months funneling through the lake has the greatest impact on shoreline erosion.

Watershed Mismanagement

The clearcut acreage above Strawberry Hill has had a huge impact on the local shoreline erosion in that area. It is easy to see the increased runoff creating significant shoreline erosion.

Catastrophic Storms

Hurricane Helene had a greater impact on the shoreline than 10 years of wake board/surf boats intermittently creating waves 3 months per year. The magnitude of these storms cannot be underestimated and the blame cannot be pointed at the relatively weak wave production of a boat.

By 65 feet, surf waves are the size of a pontoon boat's wake.

Waves from a wakesurf boat have a limited contribution to shoreline erosion due to their short ride time, quick size dissipation and usage only during the summer months.

Remember, tubing behind a pontoon boat creates continuous waves!

Love Life and Never Grow Old

The lake is a place to share our experiences and laughter and fun.

Sports can unite a group of people from different backgrounds, all working together to achieve a common goal,” Michael Jordan

This is a lake for everyone, not just the chosen few!

Testimonials

We believe in the power of Lake Glenville to bring our families together with sport!

We love Lake Glenville. We fish, wake board, wake surf, jet board and cruise on this piece of heaven. Please do not take this from my family.

Thomas Branch MD

It is through our water sports that we connect with our friends on Lake Glenville. It would be a travesty to take that away.

Elizabeth Offringa-Baxendale

My teenage daughter’s response was that Lake Glenville was being turned into a retirement community. We want our kids and grandkids to continue to come and enjoy water sports while being physically active on the lake.
